Tucks, trucks trucks. I gave you a bucket of rice to roll your construction vehicles in, and you were in 7th heaven. I’m still finding rice 6 weeks later. Worth it. This month caught me near the end of a 60 day sugar fast. We experimented with a lot of sugarless cooking and baking. It was very instructive learning just how many food items have hidden sugars, and learning to substitute traditional sugars for more natural ones like dates, and honey and agave, fruit, and coconut sugar. We made things banana ice cream (blended up frozen bananas and yogurt with other goodies thrown in) rather than cookies. It was hard for me, but good. Red Robin is our typical cheat whenever we’re trying to get healthy and cut extra calories out of our diets. We usually get to eat one “bad” meal a week and it’s reeeeally difficult for Daddy and I to pick anything other than Red Robin. When we do, we usually end up saying… “good. but not as good as Red Robin!” You guys like to beat each other over the heads with the balloon wands they pass out there. You both love your cheeseburgers too. Josiah, you call them “cheezegergers. mmmm.” Always with the “mmmmm.” Cute.
The end of this week took us up to Big Bear for an in-the-wood-real-campire camping trip. And it was fabulous. We had so much fun. I was really sick. Both of you were getting over illness. I broke my camera on the first day. It was freezing. I was really, really struggling with not being able to eat sugar (over the 60 days, the need came and went, but this weekend was especially hard for some reason… as soon as the s’mores came out. I almost caved, but didn’t!) But it was one of those beautiful moments of acceptance. A victory. A surrender to things I could not control. And God blessed us. Attitude can change everything. In this case, it really did. I think it was my favorite camping tripĀ yet, despite all the imperfections. I had a great time taking pictures with my cell phone without the pressure of having to document everything with my “real camera” (resulting in the little collage at the end of this post.) We just love getting in Daddy’s truck and exploring offroad. We went on several drives and short hikes, built several fires, and just enjoyed being a family. It was great!
