It’s the dawn of a new day for our family. We have finally acquired the baby-carrying backpack we’ve been eyeballing for Josiah. And we are now ready for the trails! Hiking is something that Daddy and I did together in the first years of our relationship. It’s one of the things we shared that allowed us to fall in love with each other and become best friends, and now we get to share it with you guys, the product of our love. It’s wonderful and we have big plans to hit as many trails as we can. We did our test run in the Morongo Preserve, taking about a 2.5 mile hike up a little hill and through a canyon. It was the perfect day, overcast, warm and beautiful. Adela, you are a champ. You got a little tired on the biggest hill, but that was the only time I heard you mention how “hard” hiking is. But you said it as an observation, not as a complaint. Josiah, you are okay as long as we’re moving. You want to get out and walk around whenever we pause, and you let us know. But for a first run, I’d give you a passing grade. It’s only for a couple of years, son. Soon enough you’ll be keeping up with us on your own two legs. We picked wildflowers, looked for animals, learned about ant colonies, and the effects of rain in the desert, and spotted a rattlesnake! We had to throw a rock at it to get it out of the trail, and it even rattled at us when we walked by it.
