[Typical Day} May 12, 2014 | Zelda & Brushing

This handful of photos sums up a few staples of our typical days in the past few weeks.

We get up, eat breakfast, and then we play Zelda. Adela, you are obsessed. I decided to get it out a few weeks ago when I was having a yen after several years of not playing. You are incredible. I had no idea how well and how quickly you would grasp the concepts of my favorite video game, or that you would love it as much as I always have. It’s awesome! Something we can share together. You have stopped asking to watch TV and have started asking me to “play your game!” You help me figure out where to go and what to do, you help me spot bugs to catch and let me know when I need to pick up amber relics and rupees and when I need to hit switches, and remind me when I’ve already gone certain directions. It’s so fun. Pretty soon I’m going to break out the Mario Brothers and see if you can work the controllers yourself. I think I might be unleashing a beast here, but it’s alright. Everything in moderation. Nintendo is one of my favorite childhood memories. I have always been a fan, and I’m stoked I get to share that with you. Even Josiah likes to sit and watch us play.

After Jo’s morning nap, we’ve been putting on our bathing suits and making lunch/smoothies, and eating outside by the kiddie pool. Despite the pouty photo of you in the naughty chair for grabbing from your brother and not listening to me when I asked you to give it back, it’s generally a good time. You get over your little time out stints quickly. It still almost always works to stop and change your behavior. You’re up to 5 minutes now. And you hate missing out on the fun to be had. You generally have a smile on your face and a ready apology at the end of 5 minutes. You have your own mind, girl. It can be exhausting. But you’re so cute and sweet too.

Our nighttime routine has recently changed to include the brushing of Josiah’s teeth, and you love it, son. It is obvious that you feel so big and grown up. You smile and jiggle that brush back and forth in your mouth for as long as I’ll let you. It’s becoming a challenge to wrest it back from you so that we can help make sure you get all those little teeth (you have 4 molars and are cutting your eye teeth right now.) It’s full on melt down sometimes when we take the brush away. Apparently dental hygiene is important to you.
