I probably think about this more than I should… about how by the time you kids are “grown,” I’ll be old. You’ll look at me and see an old person, or maybe I’ll be so awesome in other ways you won’t notice. I can hope! It may be a shallow thought, but it’s odd how one’s perspective changes as we get older. I don’t feel old, and I used to think that 35 was ancient. There is a young person inside every old person, a person who used to be less weathered and less wise. I hope I can raise you guys to understand that and value age and experience. It’s one of those lessons that’s hard to teach. No matter how hard I try to see into the future and act in accordance with the things I will someday know, it’s a difficult thing to do. We have to live and earn our own experience and our own wisdom.
Here’s proof that I used to be old, but not as old as I will be someday. Here’s your Momma at 35. I’m purposing right now to get a similar photograph of your Daddy sometime this month. He’s so handsome.
