Big Day – Sleeping Through the Night!

It’s official. You woke up this morning, August 1st, 2 days shy of your 8 month birthday, after sleeping 12 hours with no feedings, no comfortings, no checkings. Twelve hours alone in your crib with no crying. You slept through the night!

HURRAY!!!!!

It’s been coming on for a few weeks now. First you started sleeping the occasional 6 hour stretch without a peep. Then, you started waking up but not crying – just talking to yourself or mildly fussing. So, we stood outside your door and waited to see what would happen. A lot of the time you fell back alseep without eating, and sometimes even without us intervening in any way. If you cried, we comforted you and put you back to bed, sometimes repeatedly. Then you started sleeping 8 hour stretches this week.

Last night you went to bed late since we got home late from a visit to Great Grandma. So you went to bed at 8pm. I heard you on the monitor at 3am talking to yourself, but I fell back asleep. You obviously fell back asleep too because no crying woke me.

I ran downstairs in a panic at 8am this morning and you were laying there contentedly playing with your binky.

I am so proud of you!

I know that this is probably not the end of night wakings. You could go back to waking up every few hours tonight. Who knows? You have yet to pull yourself up or start teething, two things that may mess with your sleep habits again.

But for today – for the first time in 8 months – I’m going to bask in the glory of a full night’s sleep, of staying in my own bed, of peace for an entire night!
