This month has been a month of cleaning and organizing and putting things back together, in between the waiting for things to be done. Our kitchen and our baby boy’s nursery are now complete (or just about), the house is put back together (for the most part), and life is returning to normal… at least for the next few weeks before it all goes chaotic again with the impending arrival of the latest member of our family. We celebrated my Dad’s 65 birthday, finished up our first summer of swimming lessons, transitioned out of the crib and into a big girl bed, and solidified our potty training. Life is moving by at rocket speed. I officially feel huge. And we’re ALL very excited to meet our little man next month. Next month? Since it’s actually now September as I post this. I can actually say that. What?? Ah! That’s so close. I can’t believe it! Only one more month left as a mother of one… one sweet, beautiful, interesting, vibrant, sassy girl.

This kid is so easy on me. She had about a 20-minute nap from which we woke her up in order to do this session to commemorate her 7th month. I would have been cranky. She was her regular dolly self – beautiful, sweet, and vibrant. I could eat her up.

Happy SEVEN Months, Felicity!

Getting a smile was my one goal for this session, my fourth with this little guy. The first time he looked at me this month, he granted my wish. Nothing better than getting little ones to grin at you. It’s good for the soul.

Cal’s Momma rocked him until he fell asleep so we could take some photos of him in his little bear hat sleeping. This Mom of 4 knows how to calm a baby. It’s really beautiful to watch. And he is such a serene little guy! Even at 3 months old, he let us pose him on the bean bag. Below are some of the more photojournalistic shots that show the process, the sweet moments of a Momma calming and rocking her little man until he drifted off. Unscripted moments, real memories. This is why I never put my camera down. The in between moments are just as beautiful as the orchestrated ones (or even more.)

Happy 3 Months, little guy!

I just realized I never blogged this sweet couple I photographed a couple months ago, so I’m spending a few minutes rectifying that right now. And here’s why. I always try to share at least a few photos from every session I do (we’ll see how that goes after I have this baby and am trying to juggle a 2 year old and a newborn, haha). Sharing photos from every session is an important function of this blog. I believe every couple, family, individual, child I photograph has a story worth telling. Sharing a little piece of every client’s story keeps me accountable and inspires me to do the best I can for every client every time.

My website serves a different purpose than my blog. Blogs are time-consuming and full of information. Websites are more concise and easier to maintain (and have other benefits like large, high quality images where you can truly get a sense of the technical merit of a photographer’s work.)Β  If you want to get a quick idea what some of my favorite images are, the best way to do that is to head over to www.delalanephotography.com and browse the galleries. This blog is something else. It allows clients and potential clients to get an idea of the sampling of photos they might get from a whole session, not just one or two of my favorite images. It gives you an idea what you might get when you book a session with DelaLane Photography, and I believe that what you should get is a variety of photos that give an idea who you are and where you’re at in life, photos that showcase things about your personalities and the people, things and places that are important to you.

Blog posts are the best way to try and share just a little bit of my passion for creating something other than a cookie-cutter, say-cheese experience with my clients, to show that every session is a unique experience with unique people. I want you to love your photos because when you look at them they remind you of a time in your life, images that transport you into the past and make you relive, remember, experience real memories and emotions associated with that time. Because those are the types of images I want for my own family!

Okay, enough blabbing. πŸ™‚ Back to the couple at hand. Meet Penny and Robert.

Penny and Robert booked a session with meΒ  because they wanted to celebrate their relationship, somewhat newly married, in love and very, very happy. I’ve photographed a lot of couples, and I’ll tell you what, these 2 are among the most affectionate I’ve been around. I never had to encourage them to get closer to each other or act happy. They did and they are. And Penny just graduated, again! She’s continuing her education after a long career in nursing. So inspiring.

New love, new life, new degree. Kudos and congrats! I’m so happy for you both. Best in life and love!

Life is moving so fast these days. Our second child will be making his debut in somewhere around 2 months. This pregnancy has gone by at lightning speed. I can’t believe that I’ll be meeting this little boy in a matter of what can now be counted on my fingers in weeks. As busy as life is and as quickly as the time goes, I wanted to take a few quiet moments and commemorate my son at 30 weeks with a few self-portraits.

Your Momma is already in love with you, little man. <3

Self-portraits are a hobby of mine because I think it’s a bummer than I have so few photos of my mom and I together during my childhood. I have a ton of photos of myself and the rest of our family since my mom was great about pulling out the Kodak, but she rarely handed the camera to anyone else. I’m so grateful for the photos I do have of my mom, but I wish there were more. I feel like I’m missing out on a part of my history because my mom was and is such an important and loved person in my life. So when I can’t hand the camera to someone else, I use a tripod and a remote. I want my kids to have these memories as much as I want to have them for myself.
